Wacky Space Rocks

Essence Jacob's Protection, OPI Pink Shatter, OPI Pirouette My Whistle

Hello all! Some of you may have noticed that I've added a new little thing just to the right of this post called Today's Nails. Call it an unofficial New Year's resolution, but I kind of want to intensely document what goes on my nails on a day to day basis.

I like facts and spreadsheets and statistics, and I'm actually quite curious as to how often I really paint my nails, as well as what my most used brands, colours etc are. This led to me deciding to do a 365 of sorts on my nails this year. Every day I will take a photo on my phone (so no excuse not to do it!) of what's on my nails and it'll pop up in that little thing on the blog.

I'm hoping it will also make me be less of a lazy bones and post my blog worthy manis more quickly, since you'll all be able to stalk Little Nails flickr and yell "Rosie, we know you did this mani two weeks ago! Stop being such a lazy bones!" at me when I'm slacking!

So, onto today's mani, and yes, this is what's on my nails this very second

I'll be honest with you, this is perhaps one of the weirdest combinations of polish I've had on my nails in a long time. Yesterday I wore Essence's Jacob's Protection*. Then, after work I decided to add to it for today. On went a coat of Pink Shatter. Next I added a coat of Pirouette My Whistle because I couldn't be bothered to add a top coat. I was actually very surprised by the end result. They look kind of spacey and kind of rocky. Like fancy moon rocks!

*Ugh, it kind of annoys me that this is a Twilight themed polish. It was purchased on its own glittery merit, not because I'm "Team Jacob" or anything like that!

piCture pOlish Gene Doll

piCture pOlish Gene Doll, OPI I Eat Mainely Lobster, OPI Ate Berries in the Canaries

I love a good glitter. piCture pOlish's Gene Doll is a lovely fuchsia glitter polish. I've been obsessed with feature nails lately, and Gene Doll matched perfectly to OPI's Ate Berries in the Canaries.

Summer is in full swing here in Australia and I love being able to wear super bright, colourful nail polish. And what's better than bright polish? Bright glitter!

piCture pOlish Gene Doll can be purchased online from piCture pOlish.

This polish was sent to me for review.

Day 17 - Glitter

China Glaze Riveting,  Glimmer by Erica Muy Caliente

I am a huge fan of glitter. Glitter nail polish, and just glitter in general. To give you an idea of my love, I currently have a 250g tub of glitter sitting on my desk. It's just my general, everyday use glitter.

For Glitter day I couldn't resist Muy Caliente. It's super sparkly and amazingly bright and summery! I layered it over China Glaze Riveting, which is also a sparkle fest. These were just the most epic glitter overload nails. They were awesome!

Day 16 - Tribal Print

China Glaze Riveting, Inglot 204, Topshop AWOL

I have a soft spot for these patterns. Tribal print manis were an early favourite of mine when I started to get into nail art and I haven't done one in what seems like forever! My original intention was to keep it a simple two colour pattern, but I added Inglot 204 to Riveting because I just can't help myself with that combination and it ended up being quite blingy with the flakies and the sparkle and the blue pattern on the top!

Ozotic Beam 908

China Glaze Kinetic Candy, Ozotic 908

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark, Ozotic 908

Ozotic 908 is a new polish from Ozotic's Sugar & Beam collection. This one was really hard to take photos of. It's so sparkly in real life! The glittery pieces are pink and green. Like most Ozotics, it looks amazing over black and dark colours, but I prefer 908 over lighter colours for a more subtle shimmer. I rocked it over China Glaze Kinetic Candy and, believe it or not, on its own! Yep, if you're happy with four coats (I'm a solid three coater, so one extra is no big deal) 908 is opaque enough to wear on its own. It's my current favourite wearable white!

I also played around with making nail art decals after seeing this tutorial on Small Good Things using 908.

Ozotic 908 can be purchased online from piCture pOlish.

Ozotic Sugar 903

Ozotic 903 (over China Glaze Rodeo Fanatic)

Hello people. Do I have a doozie for you. This is Ozotic 903 from Ozotic's new Sugar & Beam collection. I honestly haven't been this obsessed with a nail polish in a very long time. It was on my nails in various forms for over a week, which is an insane amount of time for me to have one polish on my nails. Basically, I spent last week staring at my hands. I was mesmerised! No work was done at all!

I also saved this very special nail polish for a very special post... It was exactly one year ago today that I first posted on Little Nails! Hooray!

Straight after I opened my nail mail I tried it out on one nail (over Essie Coral Reef and white dots!), then I tried it out over black on one nail. Then last week I wore it over China Glaze Rodeo Fanatic (one of my all time favourite nail polishes), OPI Russian Navy, OPI The One That Got Away and lastly back over Rodeo Fanatic for the weekend and to take these photos.

903 is made up of these little particles of magic (I don't really know what to call them) which kind of have the same look as glass fleck polishes. It's like someone went at some flakies with a mortar and pestle and crushed them down into tinier pieces of awesome.

Apart from being super sparkly and sugary looking, 903 has a kick a** duo chrome colour change happening. I had so many comments on my nails while wearing this. And it looks amazing in all kinds of light. As much as I love holo polishes, when you're not in the sun all day I feel like you miss out on a lot of the amazingness. 903 even looked amazing under the florescent lights in my office! It looked great everywhere!

I couldn't help myself so I made this to show the colour change. Look at it go!

Ozotic can be purchased online at piCture pOlish and for only AU$12 it's an absolute steal!

Day 8 - Metallic

China Glaze Devotion, Ozotic 534

When I was doing this mani I realised that I don't actually have all that many metallic nail polishes. China Glaze Devotion is one of my favourite polishes to stamp with, but I rarely use it to paint the whole of my nails. To add some extra bling I topped it off with a coat of Ozotic 534. So much holo!

Day 6 - Purple

Deborah Lipmann I Know What Boys Like, Glimmer By Erica Drizzt

Day 6 was purple and another Glimmer By Erica glitter explosion. I popped Drizzt over DL I Know What Boys Like (which looks super purple in these photos). It's another amazing glitter and I couldn't stop staring at my nails the whole time I had it on! I can't wait to try it over other colours.

Day 5 - Blue

Kink Ink, Beneath The Blue Glimmer by Erica

This is seriously one of the most beautiful glitter nail polishes I've ever seen. A few weeks ago I couldn't help but buy some of Erica's amazing nail polishes on Etsy (check out her Etsy shop here). Day 5 of the challenge was blue and I couldn't wait to try out Beneath The Blue. It was even more beautiful in real life!

This is also my 100th post (woo!). I'm glad it's celebrated with such a lovely glitter!

Deborah Lippmann Glitter In The Air

OPI Skull & Glossbones, Deborah Lippmann Glitter In The Air

It's finally mine! It's on my fingers! Deborah Lippmann's Glitter In The Air is everything I hoped it would be. It's so pretty that I've already worn it twice this week (the other time was over Essence You Belong To Me). After seeing so many photos of it on the internet I still can't really believe that it's mine!  I can't wait to try it over all kinds of colours.

Lush Lacquer - Salt n Peppa

OPI Moon Over Mumbai, Lush Lacquer Salt n Peppa

A while ago, I succumbed to the handmade polish insanity and bought my first "indies". Etsy seemed to be the place to start, and after coming across a few nail polish stores that were closed for various reasons I happened upon Lush Lacquer. Glitter heaven! I promptly made an Etsy account and went shopping!

This is actually the third time I've worn Lush Lacquer's fabulous Salt n Peppa, but the first time I've photographed it. It always seems to be raining and dreary when I wear this polish (I put it on to cheer up my nails!) with no good photo takin' light to be seen! Today was no exception and I ended up taking the photo with the flash, which I usually try to avoid at all costs.

After a day of Moon Over Mumbai (oh, I am in light grey love), I couldn't be bothered to take the manicure off completely, but I was up for a bit of a change, so I kept with the monochromatic theme and added Salt n Peppa. It's just an all round awesome polish. The black and white glitter is fab, and on top of that there's opalescent glitter in there too (think China Glaze Snow Globe but smaller). It's the kind of polish that looks great over absolutely everything.

When I bought Salt n Peppa, I also got Party Rockin and Birthday Cake, which are also fabulous. Now I have my eye on Lite Brite and Mr Bubble. You can buy Lush Lacquers through their Etsy store

Are you blue? Purple? Green? Or just plain amazing?

China Glaze Rodeo Fanatic, Ozotic 505, Ozotic 528

As I mentioned in my last post, I bought a few new Ozotics last week, one of which was Ozotic 505. This is a damn awesome nail polish! It's blue, it's purple, it's green! And it changes completely depending on what you layer it over! I'd painted my nails with Rodeo Fanatic (because it's one of my all time favourite nail polishes and I love applying it!) and since it's a similar sort of colour, I thought I'd see how 505 went over it, instead of layering it over black like I do with most Ozotics.

For a bit of extra multi-chrome fun I added a coat of Ozotic 528 over the top. Ozotic 528 has the same colour shift as 505, just in glitter form. I nabbed this combo idea from Cathy of More Nail Polish fame (and general Queen of Holo & Ozotics). I was a bit lazy though and didn't do that many coats of glitter as she did. Check out her mani for 528 glitter awesomeness.

And sadly, if you haven't heard, Ozotic is discontinuing a bunch of their polishes, including both 505 and 528 (most of the 500s in fact), so if you were thinking of getting some Ozotics, do it now before it's too late! Picture Polish (the distributors of Ozotic) also said on their Facebook page that the availability of Ozotic polishes in general is a bit unknown at the moment. Best to get the ones you want while they're still around!

Cake, Nails & Glitter!

OPI Black Onyx, Ozotic 528, Ozotic 529

I was in a glittery Ozotic mood on Friday, mainly becasue my Friday afternoon was spent looking through swatches of Ozotic nail polish and Picture Polish nail polishes. The lovely ladies from Picture Polish were having a great little sale on a bundle of Ozotics and PPs and I was trying to figure out which colours to get.

Ozotic 528 and 529 are both multichrome glitters and they are just amazing! It's so hard to get a photo that shows the real life awesomeness of these glitters!

Over the weekend I caught up with my friend Julia, who is getting into nail art and wanted to have a little nail art, nail polish play around afternoon. We got out a rainbow selection of nail polishes out and played around. While Julia mastered the dotter, I painted my  housemate Lucy's (AKA The Giver Of Chanel Peridot) nails. I liked the colours she picked so much I thought I'd do my nails the exact same!

Also over the weekend, we celebrated Lucy's birthday with a lovely pie and an epic cake (my other housemate Anna is a genius baker!) Lucy's nails (OPI Panda-Monium Pink & OPI Pirouette My Whistle) matched her cake so well I insisted on a photo!

Afternoon Picnic Glitter Bomb

afternoon-picnic-kleancolor-glitter-bomb-little-nails

China Glaze Rodeo Fanatic, Kleancolor Afternoon Picnic

This began as a a plain ol' one colour manicure. Rodeo Fanatic is one of my all time favourite colours. I thought I'd jazz it up a little and add some glitter to one nail, just one coat of Afternoon Picnic to just one nail. Somehow this was what I ended up with.

I kind of dabbed on the glitter and used the little end of my dotter to move them around and place them so I had good coverage. Two coats of Seche Vite later and I had the bling-iest nails of my life!

Pale Glittery Pink Jelly Mani

OPI Panda-Monium Pink, China Glaze Nova, Ulta3 French Pink

This was my attempt to be slightly creative while I was sick with a cold earlier in the week (the cold is also responsible for me posting today instead of on Monday or Tuesday like normal). I've been seeing a few of the old jelly sandwich manis over the past few weeks and was in the mood for a subtle, pink kind of manicure so this was what I ended up with!

I bought Ulta3 French Pink a while back during my search for the perfect pink, but it's just too sheer for my liking. It sure came in handy for this mani though!

Netty Rainbows

OPI William Tell Me About OPI, Ozotic 534, Face Of Australia White Gold, China Glaze Devotion, Bundle Monster BM-208

After a weekend away (wearing William Tell Me About OPI), a 5.30am start to catch a flight back to Sydney, then a full day of work I was feeling a little bit lazy by the time I made it home. I couldn't be bothered to take off William Tell Me About OPI, even though there was tip wear and it was looking a bit shabby, so I added a coat of Ozotic 534. Instant rainbow magic! Then I thought, why not add some stamping over the top, so I did with White Gold. Then I thought, why stop at one netty looking stamp? Trap those rainbows! I'll add another layer of stamping! And that was how this bizarre lazy manicure was born! It was actually a lot cooler looking in real life than in these photos.

Please ignore the chunks taken out of my left hand. I had a slight altercation with the grater while cooking last night. Luckily it just got the polish and not my fingernail!

Aquadelic Disco

China Glaze Aquadelic, Kleancolor Disco Ball

I cannot wait until the next week or two are over! It's been so busy lately that I've been wearing the same nail polish for multiple days in a row and I never do that! The horror! Glitter is my lazy form of nail art but I'm actually quite happy with this combination and I received lots of comments on it today, which is good because I'll be rocking this mani for a few more days yet! Perhaps I'll mattify it!

Black Glitter Gradient

OPI Skull & Glossbones, LA Girl Glitter Addict Uninhibited, OPI Black Onyx

Black glitter! So epically amazing!!! I recently received one of my massive hauls of nail polish and one of the polishes I was quite excited about was this LA Girl Glitter Addict one. I love all kinds of glitter. It's one of my favourite substances, especially when it's in nail polish form. So of course I just had to have this one. Black glitter! I just can't get over how cool it is!

I had to do something special with this glitter in honour of its awesomeness so I attempted a glitter gradient over OPI Skull & Glossbones (you know how I love it!). On my first attempt I actually tried to do the much cooler gradient mani where the glitter is the most dense at the cuticle end instead of the tip, but it was quite the failure. So I went back to the easier version of the glitter gradient and was quite impressed with the results, if I do say so myself! To make the tips that little bit extra black I kind of dabbed on some Black Onyx to fill in some stubborn gaps.

I actually still have this manicure on, and I did it on Wednesday night, which is a really long time for a mani for me! That's how much I loved it!

Anyhoo, back to the haul... I got:

  • LA Girl Glitter Addict Uninhibited
  • LA Girl Glitter Addict Celebrate
  • LA Girl Disco Brites Strobe Light
  • NYX Girls Carnival
  • NYX Girls Robotic
  • Kleancolor Metallic Red
  • Kleancolor Blue Satin
  • Kleancolor Disco Ball
  • Kleancolor Holo Chrome
  • Milani 3D Holographic Digital
  • Milani 3D Holographic Cyber Space
  • Milani 3D Holographic High Res

I think that was it. I couldn't wait to try Kleancolor Holo Chome... look how sparkly it is! So amazing. And this wasn't even in proper sunlight! It was a dodgy flash photo. Sydney has been depressingly rainy for the past week, so this was as good as I could get. Excuse the lack of clean up, I was just too dazzled by all the colours of the rainbow coming out of my fingers to bother with any of that!

Lady Nicki & Crazy Nicki

Lady Nicki
OPI Skull and Glossbones, OPI Fly, Bundle Monster BM-225

Crazy Nicki
OPI Fly, OPI Ate Berries In The Canaries, Essence Make It Golden

I am a massive green / turquoise / blue kind of girl so Fly from OPI's Nicki Minaj was just calling my name. I kind of thought it might be the same as China Glaze Custom Kicks, one of my favourites, just without the gold bits, but it's different enough that it's clear now that I definitely needed it. At the same time I also got Skull & Glossbones. Now, I was all kinds of obsessed over the Pirates of the Caribbean collection when it came out, but thought that Skull & Glossbones was too boring, so I didn't get it. Big mistake Rosie! Then, over the past few weeks I've been seeing it everywhere on the internet, looking all lovely and neutral, so of course I had to have it!

Today I present to you: Nicki Minaj, two ways. The first mani is my classy lady Nicki Minaj mani. It kind of looks like wallpaper and I love that! And of course to balance out the classy demure Nicki I had to do a crazy Nicki mani. Bright colours? Check. Out there accent nail? Check. Glitter explosion? Check.

In other news, today just happens to be my birthday and my awesome housemate Lucy surprised me with a very special nail polish, which I am sure will be featured heavily in Monday's post. I'll give you some hints... it's one of the most talked about polishes of 2011 (in my humble opinion), it changes colour, it is amazing and it comes in a square bottle. I have it on my nails as I type this, and I just can't tear my eyes away from my fingers! Have you guessed it yet????

More flakies!

OPI Black Onyx, Inglot 204

It's official. I am on a flakie spree! I can't wait for winter when I can wear dark nail polish constantly. It always feels a bit weird wearing super vampy colours when it's super hot outside. I spotted an Inglot store the other day and carefully looked at the whole place for the famous flakies. I couldn't find them so I asked the girl working there, and she had some that weren't on display that she let me have a look at. Even though they're $16 for a teensie bottle I couldn't resist! 204 is amazingly blue and I've always wanted a really blue flakie.

Sorry about the lack of actual nail art recently. Hopefully I'll have some cool stuff coming up soon!
