Day 14 - Flowers

OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, OPI Dutch Tulips, BYS Black Striper, OPI Jade is the New Black

I felt like doing something a little different for flower day and I ended up with these odd looking blobby poppies hanging out on my nails. They were deceptively easy to do; I just used a big dotter to make some red petals on the top half of my nails, used a striper brush to give them a stem each and make the base of the flower, then I used a nail art brush to add a bit of random grass.

I actually did this manicure over a week ago, but I thought that today would be an appropriate day to post a poppy manicure because it's Remembrance Day here in Australia.

  5. The design is very cute! How do you manage to have such smooth non bumpy finish with dotting? Does top coat matters?

    1. I think that the top coat definitely helps to smooth things out, but the red polish I used for the dots was quite runny and thin so it was really easy to spread and dot with without being bumpy.

    2. You can add a teeny bit of thinner or pure acetone to the polish you're using for nail art. This will help it spread out more easily. Add it to the blobs of polish you're going to use, not the bottle itself unless you want all of it more watery.

PS. Alot of people swear that adding acetone to polish will ruin it but, I've *never* had a problem with it. EVER! And I've probably added it to every finish. lol I'm sure some people have horror stories with it but, my personal experiences with it have been fine. Good luck!

PSS. By "teeny", I mean like a drop. And if you're going to add it to your blob of polish, I'd dip the nail art brush into the acetone or thinner so the bristles soak it up instead of pouring it onto the polish itself. You can always add more polish if it's too thin, add more thinner if it's not .. you just have to play with it until you get what you're looking for. ^_^

  6. Do you have twitter? I've recreated this mani and I wanted to share it with you because I'm kinda proud of it. :) I don't have instagram or anything like that. :( But, I use twitter to share my mani creations with the bloggers that I get inspired by. :D Lemme know!

PS, thanks for the inspiration!! I love your blog. I, too, have "little nails". LOL Even when I grow them a little longer, my nail beds are so tiny that they're still "little nails". It's so hard for me to recreate manis I see on other blogs and do my own nail art because, getting the sizing right is so difficult for me. It's really frustrating. So, finding your blog was really nice. Not only because I'm sure you can relate to my frustrations but, you're talented and fun and your blog is diverse, which is another plus. :)

I wholeheartedly admit that I've been stalking your blog since I found it a few days ago and alot of your designs have found their way into my bookmarks. LOL So, if you don't have twitter, PLEASE sign up for an account!! :)

Thanks again and I'm SO sorry for the novel!! xoxo
